Squigdle is a small daily drawing game made by James O'Halloran. It is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older. This page says, in plain words, what the game keeps about you and why.
If you just play
- Your drawing (its lines, title, and where you put the squiggles) is stored so other players can vote on it. Drawings you enter are shown to other players in voting and the day's favourites, and anyone with a share link can see that drawing.
- A random device ID, kept in your browser's local storage, ties your drawings, votes, and reports together without knowing who you are. Your browser also keeps copies of your drawings and any extra sketches (sketches never leave your device).
- A scrambled form of your IP address (a salted hash, not the address itself) is used to stop spam and abuse, such as too many entries or reports from one place.
- Your votes and reports are stored against your device ID to count them and stop abuse.
If you make an account
Accounts are optional and for players aged 13 and over. An account stores your email address and username, and keeps your drawings safe across devices. It's the same account as on Squishy Billiards, another game by the same maker. Squigdle only uses your email to send you sign-in codes, and shows your username only to you. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in.
Checking drawings
So the game stays friendly for everyone, each drawing and its title are checked by an automated moderation service before anyone else sees them. Drawings that might not be suitable, or that players report, are looked at by the game's maker.
Who else handles it
A few service providers handle data on the game's behalf, only to run it: hosting and storage, sending sign-in emails, automated moderation, and private notifications to the game's maker about drawings that need a look.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see how the game is used — for example, how many people finish a drawing. It uses cookies to gather aggregated performance data, and Google processes that data under its own privacy policy. You can block it with any content blocker, or Google's opt-out add-on, without affecting the game.
There are no ads. Your data isn't sold or shared for marketing. Drawings you enter may be used to promote the game, as described in the terms.
How long it's kept
Pictures of drawings made without an account are usually cleared about 30 days after their day, except each day's top 50 and any that have been shared. Drawings on an account are kept until you delete them.
Deleting your data
In the game, open Gallery and choose Delete my data at the bottom. That erases every drawing on your account (or, without one, from this device), along with your votes and reports, and clears what the game keeps in your browser. To delete the account itself (it's shared with Squishy Billiards), or for anything else about your data, email [email protected].
